Charminar is an eloquent structure which stands as the landmark of the city.Hyderabad is famous for the Charming Minarets of Charminar which stands magestic in the center of the old city.Charminar is situated in the south sector of Hyderabad city and to the south of Musi river.The actual meaning of Charminar explains the structure as "Mosque of Four Minarets" or "Four Towers".
History of Charminar
In the year 1591 shortly after shifting the capital from Golkonda to Hyderabad the monument was erected by the 5th QutubShahi ruler Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah.The ruler built the monument to eradicate plague in the city which is at a rampage at that time.He told that he would built a mosque at place where he always prays but he didn't.Eventually after shifting the capital he started the construction to eliminate plague which is prevailing in that situation.He laid the foundation by saying "Oh Allah!please restore peace and prosperity in the city.Let millions of people of different castes,creeds and religions make this place as their home".The evidence of the prayer can be seen now as people not just from all over India but in other places of world are very much interested in making their home in Hyderabad.Charminar was declared as a protected monument in the year 1886.
The eloquent structure Charminar is a square edifice with four grand arches that are opened once upon a time into four royal streets.Built with granite,lime mortar and with aesthetic looks Charminar stands as a signature of Islamic architecture.Charminar emerges as an elegant and romantic edifice proclaiming the art of Islamic architeture and dignity.Charminar has four pillars at each corner of the 20m extended side.The height of each pillar or minaret is about 48.7m approximately.149 wide steps are present which guides the visitors to the peak of the minaret which gives a complete view of the city.The space on the upper floor is for Friday prayers and there are forty five prayer spaces.The main masjid occupies the top floor of the four-storey structure.There are arches on all sides of the minar which adds major attraction.Each arch is 11m wide and 20m height which extends from plinth to pinnacle.In the year 1889 each minar is added with a clock which stands adds more attraction to the monumnet.Charminar depicts the Indo-Saracenic tradition which is a symbiosis of Hindu and Muslim traditions.
