A Killer 'Knology'? A common scenario at any given public place is people yakking up on their prized possessions, their mobiles… A minute of my life, witness to how technology reigns lifes at this juncture.

A common scenario at any given public place is people yakking up on their prized possessions, their mobiles….they happen to be their "prized possessions" because people are literally addicted to their mobile phones. People have been breathing high, flaunting the technological advancement they are witnessing. In this modern day of technological advancement, lots of changes happened…from the way we walk to the way we talk. The present society has been depending so much on technology and its products that manual handling, self-dependency are sure to be extinct in the years to come!

Human life has been enslaved by the ogre known as 'cell phone'. Technology has embalmed the style of living with laziness and impeding the quality of self-dependence. It is not surprising to realize that cellular phones hampered a person's ability to memorize a fistful of phone numbers at a go. This was not the case before a decade or so. Back then, man was self-dependent and had the ability to complete his errands manually, in a jiffy.

Well, coming back to the mobile phone thingy… Not many are aware that using mobile phones as a mode of communication can be a killer. The radiation caused by usage of mobiles are lethal and might lead to many health complications like say, memory loss, lack of concentration and digestive disturbances and even critical illnesses. It was observed that there have been startling violations of radio frequency levels according to international standards due to mobile phone usage.

People who are chronically exposed to low-level wireless antenna emissions and users of mobile handsets have been experiencing several vague symptoms during and after its use, ranging from burning and tingling sensation in the skin of the head, fatigue, sleep disturbances, dizziness, lack of concentration, ringing in the ears, reaction time, loss of memory, headache, disturbance in digestive system and heart palpitation.

The climate in India being tropical, the effects of radiation caused by a mobile phone are at peak. Children, adolescents and pregnant women could be at the maximum risk. It is advisable to use hands-free technology to lower physical contact with the body and the cell phone. People having active medical implants should keep their cellphone at least 30 cm away from the implants. Youngsters are the worst hit by extreme usage of cell phones. There is a 400% increase in the risk of brain cancer among teenagers using cell phones for long spans. The younger the child, the deeper is the penetration of electromagnetic radiation as the skulls of children are comparably thinner to those of the adults'.

No wonder, technology makes things easier and is time saving but not at the cost of manual abilities of a man. Technology is indeed a boon to mankind but then, there is a limit. Technology should not embezzle the unique abilities that man has been bestowed with. After all, it is the man's mental and manual ability that has dawned into this day of technological advancement. So, take care and think twice before those long sessions on the phone with your loved ones. Use hands-free option to avoid direct contact with the phone… We wouldn't want the heights of technology to be branded as 'hi-tech slow poison'…or do we?
